Kinda low on the evil scale...

A millionaire is born!

Congratulations to Low Sook Yee or better know to us as Suki for being the very first One In A Million winner. She sang her way to the one million dollars last night, beating fellow finalists Faizal and Alif. What can I say? She's cute, bubbly and just down right attractive. Vocal-wise she's just ok. Well, the other contestants weren't very good either. I'll say that that I supported Suki very much more on looks than singing ability :P
All in all, Jaclyn Victor, the very first winner of Malaysian Idol is still my favourite. You're still the best. You're still a super singer to me :)

When the dead get up and walk....

Tobe Hooper's Mortuary is simply gruesome. It is not only horrifying it is disgusting. Generally the feeling of puking surfaces when you watch it. Look at that picture and imagine watching it in really lifelike colours magnified a hundred times on the big screen. Then imagine not one but lot's more of them. Yeargh!
One thing for sure is the plot is really silly. The ending is shit too. It's all about some fungus thing growing beneath a cemetery that can infect and kill people. If that isn't enough the people then get up and walk about as zombies. Not for the faint of heart and for those who don't wanna waste their money.
Caution: Don't watch the movie with a full stomach.

A stain on a noble profession!
A friend of mine had her handphone stolen a few weeks back. All I can say that the incident disgusts me thoroughly. To have someone from a premier university thieving, and a medic student nontheless makes it more of a shameful thing. He's obviously intelligent but is he intelligent enough to know what's right and what's wrong. The basic moral values that most of us adhere to seem to elude him I guess. Imagine, he steals a handphone now, what would he steal later in life when he's a doctor? Steal organs when a patient's in surgery? To make matters worst the security isn't doing much to track him down and to call him into account. Excuses after excuses are thrown to my poor friend saying it is hard to track him down. Now they say that the cctv capture is deleted because they do so to old captures every three days. What the hell? When somethig serious as this happens aren't they suppose to keep the recording until the case is resolved? I don't know whether they do this to all cases or just because he's a medic student. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Sorry to all my medic friends but this is really something to take note of. You know the malay proverb about 'nilai' and 'susu'. Well does it apply here? I would like to end it by saying that I am appalled!
These are all what's left after the video got deleted. Just two screen shots. I masked his face because until he is caught and declared guilty he is still innocent.I am no judge and he still has his rights.

Memories from Sabah

It has been a week since I got back from Sabah but only now I have the time to put these pictures up. It was a pretty uneventful trip and I guess I had a nice time there. Didn't have much time to visit various places in Sabah though.
On the first day we arrived, my sis rushed off to her convocation briefing and then we had a photo session at the studio to take her graduation pics at night. The following morning we arrived at UMS main chancellor hall for her convocation session at 7.30am and the whole thing ended at about 12pm. Yeah, can you imagine it. Almost 5 hours stucked there while my sister moment of glory only lasted less than a minute. There were hundred of people graduating during the session and I actually had to sit there watching all of them. :S
The worst were the awards given to some professors or something and they were actually reading out their life story to us before presenting the awards. To make matters worst these people weretthen asked to make a speech and they of course gave such boring ones. The icing of the cake was when a phd was presented to someone that is gone for 10 whole years. Yeah, the person passed away 10 years ago and he's receiving a phd now....
After that long morning, my sis brought us to the Philippines market in KK. Was stuffy, crowded and overpriced :) Well, I didn't buy anything there. Then headed back to the hotel for rest and at night went for dinner with my sister's bf family. And man let me tell you, it's so damn akward. I hate this little dinners where I have nothing much to say but have to sit there, all nice and smily. Bah! One consolation is of course the great food. Haha.
The next day was a Sunday and we went to the tamu which is just nearby our hotel. That is seriously a great place. So many things to see and so many things to buy. I bought some bracelets and corals. I know know. I participated in the destruction of mother nature but I can't help it. It is just so beautiful. Now I guess I have to go plant some trees to make up for my acts or something. After that we went to the Tuaran crocodile farm. Nice place with lots to do. We watched the crocodile feeding, croc show and a cultural show. The thing I loved most there? The neurotic otter that is simply nuts for wires. They hung long strands of wires for it as playthings and he just attacked it with such viciousness. Cute isn't it?
Then at night is another dinner with relatives staying in Sabah. They took us to a seafood place with live cultural stage shows. Again I had to be pleasant and gracious and totally have nothing to say. Food was good though :)
The next day was of course the day I flew back to KL. With heavier bags and and maybe a heavier heart? Probably not. Still prefer KL anyday over. :P

A book review: King of Ayodhya
This is sixth and the last book in the Ramayana series by Ashok K. Banker. Frankly it is a very big letdown. I personally feel that as the books go by, the quality goes down in a way. After the the tale culminates after five books, the climax in this book is just disappointing. In this book, Rama the main character reaches the isle of Lanka where his nemesis, the demon Ravana has held his wife, Sita Devi captive. There, Rama do battle with Ravana's demon hordes with his own army of magical monkeys and bears. The battle is fierce and magic is used on both sides to ensure victory. What I'm not pleased about is the ending battle between Ravana and Rama. I expected it to be intense, drawn out and simply epic in proportions. Plus there are a few questions in the book that is left unanswered. As the tale of the Ramayana is completed I don't think there will be another book and thus the questions are left buried in our hearts. Sadly it is a big big letdown. What were you thinking Ashok?
Total pawnage :)

Had a barbeque to celebrate my friend birthday which is in a few days time. It was of course wonderful to be back among my hometown friends. After stuffing ourselves we proceeded to do some gaming. The result? Our group got pawned like a bunch of noobies by another group. Well, still had fun though. Cheers.

Tribute to Steve Irwin
The great crocodile hunter is dead apparently. I don't know how true this may be but it is in The Star papers. Actually I already heard alot of rumours since last year saying he's dead in many incidents and all, but all those turned out to be untrue. Could this be for real? Anyway, just to give him special mention on my blog for being a great host of the show I loved. He always seemed a tad reckless anway so I think maybe his luck just ran out somehow this time. It's reported that the cause of his death is a stringray. Maybe the crocodile hunter should have stick to hunting crocs. G'day mate!

The land below the winds

I'm going to Sabah tomorrow for my sis's convocation. Never been to there before and I'm looking forward to it. I heard the land below the winds is indeed a very nice place. And since Im following my parents, all expenses paid :) I went and bought a stuff toy for my sis the other day. Wanted to buy flowers but my parents are buying so I decided to get something else. I bought a cute dog since my sis goes nuts over dogs. Hope she likes it.
By the way, Happy Merdeka to all Malaysians!

Spice up your life!
I know many people find it to be boring and rather plain but I enjoyed it. It's a great love story with an added element of fantasy in it. Being a lover of all things pertaining to magic I found it to be really enjoyable.Aishwarya playing Tilo and Dylan as Doug really make a wonderful couple. It tells the tale of Tilo as a mistress of spices. A mistress of spices is simply the great wielder of magic through spices. Tilo is able to perceive the troubles of all her customers and help them by dosing out spices to solve the problems. As a mistress of spices she cannot leave her spices (that means leaving her shop), touch the skin of another person and fall in love. This all ends when she meets Doug whom with she immediately falls in love. Thus, she breaks all the rules and she loses the power of her spices. All the help she tries to give to her customers turns bad and she is no longer able to read her customers troubles.
Well, the ending? Let's just say it is a happy ending. Will she choose her spice or her man? You'll have to watch to find out.
*Psstt* The part where she made love to Doug is simply erotic. Nothing obscene of course but it was shot in a way where you really felt turn on. :P

Book Review: Saving Fish From Drowning
I was done reading it weeks ago but didn't have the time to write a review. Didn't even have time to start another book. Well, now I do. So here goes.Amy Tan, the famous author who wrote the Joy Luck Club and the Kitchen God's Wife now has a new tale to tell. It's loosely based on a true story about San Francisco's deceased socialite Bibi Chen. Amy found some 'automatic writing' about Bibi which apparently was Bibi's ramblings after she died. Automatic writings are stories ghosts tell through a medium. Ramblings, musings, anything at all that a medium receives from the spirits.
Anyway, in this tale Amy narates through Bibi who as a spirit can hear and feel the inner thoughts and feelings of her group of friends on an expedition. Bibi was the organizer of this expedition through China and Myanmar but she mysteriously died before they took off. Her group of friends decided to go on with the trip without Bibi who was originally their leader, tour guide and docent.
Without Bibi, they stumble into a whole lot of difficulties and its their adventures that make up this book. Classic American tourists, they fumble through this expedition by being inept about local customs and traditions of Burma and China. Making a big mess in China they entered Myanmar and manage to entangle themselves with the troubles of a local tribe there, by getting kidnapped. The troubles are of course the clash between the military goverment of Myanmar and the local tribes who opposed them, named as rebels.
This book is simply full of humour and it is touching in some parts. At the end of the book, I can't help but wonder what would it be like to meet Bibi Chen. A colourful lady who is just unique in many ways. I would say Bibi Chen is reincarnated as readers really feel her come to life in this witty tale of Amy Tan.
PS: I googled for info to learn more about Bibi Chen and I found out that she doesn't exist. Hmmm... Amy duped us all. She wrote in her 'Note from the author' at the begining of the book telling about her inspiration for the story based on the real life of Bibi Chen. She even reproduced a news article from the San Fancisco Chronicles about the kinapped tourists. Well, that goes to show how well she can write. She really convinced us all that Bibi Chen was real.

It's finally over!
Finally it's over. After months of hard work it all paid off when the event was a great success. I was the secretary, involved in the publicity and then finally had to emcee. Fights broke out and arguements ensued during the process but we all manage to overcome our differences to make it all happen. Kudos to all my coursemates. You guys and gals are really made out of good stuff. After spending so much of our waking hours organizing it, when now it is over we kinda don't know what to do with our free time. Suddenly we have so much time on our hands to do as we please.Me? What do I wanna do now? I need lots and lots of rest. Had to stay at the faculty till almost 11.30 pm yesterday to smooth things out and was up this morning at 5 to go back and continue work. Well, I really need rest. Till then, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

*Ring ring*
*I knew some of these things but not the one about unlocking your car bit. I'll try it some day when I get home and I'll report back here. *
A few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: -
*EMERGENCY*
*I*
*The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112.* If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. **Try it out.**
*II*
*Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys?*
This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:
If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!"*
*III*
Subject: Hidden Battery power
Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart
with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.
AND FINALLY
*IV*
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Of mice and men

Digging through my folders I found this picture. This was a few weeks ago when I had to perform an experiment on mice. Yeah I know. I feel it's cruel too. Can't do anything much against it though. What can I do? Plan a hunger strike to protest?
Anyway, this is the picture of the mice.... a few minutes before they went into convulsions and died.

A little joke goes a long way...
Read this on friendster and I had a good laugh. I've read this joke before but never the last part. A very cute twist to the joke. Hope you all will share in the laughter :)
A Woman was out golfing one day when she hit
the ball into the woods. She went into the woods
to look for it and found a frog in a trap.
The frog said to her, "If you release me from this
trap, I will grant you three wishes."
The woman freed the frog, and the frog
said, "Thank you, but I failed to mention that there
was a condition to your wishes. Whatever you
wish for, your husband will get times ten!" The
woman said, "That's okay."
For her first wish, she wanted to be the most
beautiful woman in the world. The frog warned
her, "You do realise that this wish will also make
your husband the most handsome man in the
world, an Adonis whom women will flock to".
The woman replied, "That's okay, because I will be
the most beautiful Woman and he will have eyes
only for me." So, KAZAM-she's the most beautiful
Woman in the world!
For her second wish, she wanted to be the richest
woman in the world.
The frog said, "That will make your husband the
richest man in the world. And he will be ten
times richer than you. " The woman said, "That's
okay, because what's mine is his and what's his is
mine." So, KAZAM-she's the richest woman in the
world!
The frog then inquired about her third wish, and
she answered, "I'd like a mild heart attack."
Moral of the story: Women are clever. Don't mess
with them.
Attention female readers: This is the end of the
joke for you. Stop here and continue feeling good.

The man had a heart attack ten times milder than

Moral of the story:

just enjoy the show."
PS: If you are a woman and are still reading this; it
only goes to show that women never listen!!!
